AJ Green Signs Million-Dollar Extension with the Bucks
Milwaukee Bucks guard AJ Green has reached an agreement to extend his contract with the franchise for four years and $45 million, fully guaranteed. The news was confirmed by Green’s agent, Matt Bollero of ProMondo Sports.
Green’s story with the Bucks is an example of overcoming adversity. The player, originally from Iowa, went from not being drafted in 2022 to obtaining a two-way contract, then a standard agreement, and now a lucrative long-term contract.
With this extension, Green will be tied to Milwaukee until the 2029-30 season, preventing him from entering free agency next summer. This is a crucial bet, given that the 26-year-old player has established himself as an undisputed starter for coach Doc Rivers in the new season.
Last season, Green scored 541 points, surpassing the 406 points he accumulated in his first two NBA seasons, averaging 7.4 points per game. He is recognized as one of the best shooters in the league, with a 42% three-point shooting efficiency throughout his career, and has maintained a percentage above 40% in three-pointers in the three seasons he has played in the NBA.
Despite having started in only eight regular season games, Green proved his worth in the April playoffs. In the crucial Game 5 of the first round, Rivers included him in the starting lineup, and Green responded with 19 points and 46 minutes of play. His postseason performance rose to 11.0 points, with an impressive 51% three-point shooting accuracy. In addition, he has started in the Bucks’ four preseason games this month.
According to ESPN Research data, Green’s 42.7% three-point shooting efficiency last season placed him sixth among players with at least 300 attempts. In addition, his 44.9% on three-pointers after receiving the ball was the fifth best among players with at least 250 attempts.
