Yunesky Maya Receives Honors in Santiago: Adopted Son of the City
The Santiago City Council has granted a well-deserved recognition to the pitcher of the Águilas Cibaeñas, Yunesky Maya, naming him Adoptive Son of the city. This distinction was formalized through Resolution No. 3494-25, in a gesture that celebrates his outstanding career in professional baseball. The presentation of the recognition was led by Mayor Ulises Rodríguez, who emphasized the dedication, professionalism, and passion that Maya demonstrated during her time with the Águilas Cibaeñas. Her time with the team left an indelible mark on the sporting history of Santiago. Municipal authorities highlighted Maya’s positive impact, emphasizing how she earned the respect and affection of the Santiago fans. Her exemplary behavior, both on and off the field, was key to this connection.Visibly moved, Maya thanked the recognition, recalling her arrival in Santiago in the 2015-2016 season. She remembered how, after an injury, she felt that her career was at a critical point. The city and its stadium represented a new beginning. The resolution highlights the positive influence of Yunesky Maya on local baseball and his strong connection with Santiago. The city embraced his talent, allowing him to proudly represent Santiago in various competitions. With this distinction, the City Council of Santiago honors sports figures who, although born outside the country, have adopted the city as their home and have contributed to its identity and sporting projection.I came to this city thinking that my career was over, but seeing this stadium I dreamed of pitching here.
