Yelena Hazim Figuereo Makes History at the Head of the Dominican Football Federation
The Dominican Football Federation (FDF) announced the appointment of Yelena Hazim Figuereo as its new general secretary. This appointment marks a significant milestone in the history of Dominican football, as Hazim becomes the first woman to hold this position in more than seven decades. The FDF, founded in 1953 and affiliated with FIFA, has entrusted Hazim to lead the general secretariat, a key position in the administration of football in the Dominican Republic. Hazim Figuereo has a solid career in the sports field. Previously, she served as Director of Development and Compliance of the FDF for almost three years, from August 2020 to November 2022. During this time, she played a fundamental role and established an excellent reputation with FIFA. In the sports field, Hazim collaborated with Carlos Ramírez in the creation and execution of the National Tournament of Associations and Clubs, a competition that has been key to the development of formative soccer in the country.Originally from San Pedro de Macorís, Hazim holds a degree in Political Science and a doctorate in International Private Law and Dispute Resolution Methods. In addition, she has a master’s degree in International Sports Law and worked with the Puerto Rican Football Federation before joining the FDF. Happy to be back home.
