San Francisco. The 2026 Major League Baseball season will begin with a stellar duel between the New York Yankees and the San Francisco Giants. This Opening Night matchup will be held on Wednesday at Oracle Park and will mark an important milestone: it will be the first live MLB broadcast via Netflix.
The game is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. (Eastern Time), with a pre-game show that will begin an hour earlier, promising a global spectacle for baseball fans.
The Yankees arrive with high expectations, led by Aaron Judge, who has been recognized as the American League’s Most Valuable Player on three occasions. The New York team will seek to advance after a season of 94 victories in 2025, despite being eliminated in the Divisional Series. Manager Aaron Boone highlighted the team’s solidity and the good performance shown during spring training.
The Giants, for their part, begin a new stage under the direction of Tony Vitello, who debuts as a manager in the Major Leagues after his time in college baseball. The team will seek to return to the postseason after several seasons with variable results, counting on key figures such as their ace Logan Webb.
In addition to the opening game, Netflix will stream other highlight events of the 2026 season, including the T-Mobile Home Run Derby in July and the Field of Dreams special game in August, expanding its presence in professional baseball.
The encounter between Yankees and Giants will not only kick off the season, but also represents a new era in the way of enjoying baseball, bringing the MLB spectacle to a global audience through streaming.
