The 2026 World Baseball Classic: A Stage for the World’s Elite
The 2026 World Baseball Classic is preparing to bring together the most outstanding nations in this sport, consolidating its growth globally and defining the pinnacle of international competition.
The tournament will feature the participation of 20 national teams, distributed into four groups of five teams each. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, which will culminate with the grand final on March 17 at loanDepot Park.
The venues for the first round will be Tokyo, San Juan, Houston, and Miami, offering a tour that will begin in Japan and conclude in the United States.
Japan, the current champion, will seek to defend its title, while the United States will try to regain the crown and the Dominican Republic will seek redemption after their elimination in the previous edition. America will contribute eleven selections to the tournament, and in addition to the sporting prestige, Olympic places for the Los Angeles 2028 Games will be at stake. The two best teams on the continent, excluding the United States as host, will secure their qualification.
