Vlade Divac, Ex-NBA Star, Hospitalized After Motorcycle Accident

Podgorica, Montenegro – The renowned former NBA center and Hall of Famer, Vlade Divac, is hospitalized in Montenegro after a motorcycle accident that occurred on Thursday, June 19th. The incident took place on the Luštica peninsula, near the coast and a short distance from Dubrovnik. According to reports, Divac lost control of his motorcycle during a ride, resulting in a fall. The athlete suffered a hip fracture and was urgently transferred to a clinic in Montenegro.

“Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with a hip fracture and had to undergo surgery. An artificial hip prosthesis was implanted to ensure his recovery,” reported the medical team that treated him.

During his NBA career, Divac stood out for his offensive ability and was one of the first European players to have a significant impact on the league. He began his career in the United States in 1989 with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he played 1,062 games and reached the NBA Finals in 1991. He was also part of the Charlotte Hornets and the Sacramento Kings before retiring in 2005. Internationally, Divac represented Yugoslavia and later Serbia and Montenegro in 117 matches. He won two Olympic silver medals (Seoul 1988 and Atlanta 1996), three European championships (1989, 1991, 1995) and two world championships (1990, 2002). He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019 and chaired the Serbian National Olympic Committee between 2009 and 2017. At the time of the accident, Divac was on a personal visit to Montenegro. Divac is expected to remain hospitalized for at least a week to begin his rehabilitation process.
