Venus Williams Longs for Serena’s Return to Tennis

American tennis player Venus Williams, winner of seven Grand Slam titles, is preparing for her return to the Washington tournament at the age of 45. The veteran player expressed her wish that her sister Serena Williams, who retired from tennis in 2022, accompany her on the court. Venus, who is returning to competition after 16 months of inactivity thanks to an invitation, will debut against her compatriot Peyton Stearns.

I don’t ask those questions, I don’t ask her that (if Serena is going to return). I am her biggest fan. I never wanted her to retire. I knew she would, and it took me time to accept it.

During a press conference in Washington, Venus revealed that Serena’s presence on the court would be the ideal setting for her return. “We always play tennis, because it’s who we are, we’re always hitting the ball. It’s a great cardio exercise,” he continued. “I always tell my team, the only thing that would make it better would be if she were here, as we always did, so of course I miss her. But if she comes back, I’m sure she’ll let you know,” she concluded. Recently, Serena Williams posted a video playing tennis, which Venus interpreted as a possible reaction to her own return to competition.

Confidence in Your Own Game

Venus Williams showed confidence in her ability to compete at the highest level. “Right now I’m here, and who knows, maybe there’s more for me. I’m not showing my cards, right now I’m focused on this tournament. I haven’t played in a year, there’s no doubt that I can play tennis, but obviously playing matches again takes time to get back in rhythm,” she said. “I feel like I’m going to play well, I’m still the same player. I hit hard, that’s my personal brand,” she added. During her time away from the courts, Venus dedicated herself to her personal interests, admitting that she didn’t have time to miss the sport. Her recent visit to Wimbledon brought her nostalgic memories of her past achievements. “When I went to Wimbledon this year, I was there for a day and it was very nice and exciting. I remembered all the moments I’ve experienced and the adrenaline, all those things. It’s pure fun, the fun of the challenge, overcoming challenges, your rivals, the conditions, yourself,” she said.
