United States Bolsters Pitching for World Baseball Classic Quarterfinals

The United States selection has made significant adjustments to its pitching staff for the quarterfinals of the 2026 World Baseball Classic, seeking to strengthen its bullpen for the crucial phase of the tournament. The American team has decided to dispense with the services of Tarik Skubal, Michael Wacha, and Ryan Yarbrough, who will not continue in the championship. Instead, relievers Will Vest, Tyler Rogers, and Tim Hill have been called up, who will provide greater depth and options to the pitching staff, especially in the final innings of the games. Skubal participated in the United States’ victory over Great Britain, but chose to return to the Detroit Tigers’ camp. The additions of Vest, Rogers, and Hill offer new alternatives to the coaching staff, with a focus on closing situations, given their performance in the past Major League season.

Quarterfinals Defined

After an intense group stage, eight teams have qualified for the knockout phase of the tournament. The quarter-finals will begin on Friday with two exciting matches. The Dominican Republic will face South Korea at loanDepot park in Miami. Following this, the United States will play Canada at Daikin Park in Houston. The Saturday’s day will continue with the match between Italy and Puerto Rico, followed by the match between Japan and Venezuela. The winners of each match will advance to the semi-finals of the tournament.
