Julio Urías ready to return to MLB after suspension

Mexican pitcher Julio Urías is about to finish his suspension imposed by Major League Baseball (MLB) due to a violation of the domestic violence and sexual assault policy. His agent, Scott Boras, confirmed that the athlete firmly intends to pitch again in the Major Leagues. Urias’ suspension ends on Wednesday, July 23. The next day, MLB will officially remove him from the restricted list, allowing him to be signed by any team in the league.

“He still fully intends to continue his career. He is getting in shape. Obviously, he will have options that are open to him,” Boras stated.

Urías, 28 years old, has not participated in the 2025 season and will need time to regain his competitive physical form. Boras did not provide details about potential interested teams, although it is rumored that several have shown interest, considering both his physical condition and the context off the field. Urias’s recent suspension stemmed from an incident in September 2023, captured on video, where he was seen pushing and hitting his wife outside BMO Stadium. This event resulted in a half-season suspension from MLB, making him the only player suspended twice for this type of violation in league history. The pitcher hasn’t participated since his last appearance with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2023. His return could happen this same season if he gets in shape, or in 2026 if necessary. “It will depend on how the teams view the situation and his current ability,” Boras added, noting that it’s early to determine when he might be available to play. Urías was a key element in the Dodgers’ rotation for several seasons, including the 2020 World Series. His future in MLB will depend not only on his physical performance, but also on how the industry and fans react to his return after this new controversy.
