Carlos Alcaraz, who will secure the number 2 spot in the world at the end of the week, demonstrated his superiority by defeating Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinals of the Rome Masters 1000. The Spanish tennis player sealed his place in the final with a score of 6-3 and 7-6 (4).

Alcaraz, after an outstanding performance, secures a place in the final of the Rome tournament, a significant achievement considering he had only participated in two matches previously in this event. Furthermore, with this victory, he completes his participation in the quarterfinals of all tournaments in this category and regains the second position in the world ranking, just before Roland Garros.

Musetti, seeking revenge after his defeat in the Monte Carlo final in April, where he played conditioned by an injury, faced an Alcaraz in excellent form. The Spaniard maintained a solid game, forcing the Italian to take risks and commit unforced errors.

Alcaraz dominated the first set from the start, breaking Musetti’s serve and establishing a 4-1 lead. Although Musetti tried to react, Alcaraz maintained control, capitalizing on his opponent’s errors and extending his winning streak on clay, with a record of 26 wins and only 2 losses since May 2024.

Alcaraz’s coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, gave instructions from the bench to maintain concentration and prevent Musetti from reviving in the match.

Alcaraz secured the first set and, although Musetti showed resistance in the second, the Spaniard achieved a crucial break to equalize the score (4-4). In the ‘tie-break’, Alcaraz quickly took the lead, securing the victory and demoralizing Musetti.

In the final, Alcaraz will face the winner of the match between Jannik Sinner and Tommy Paul.
