Barahona – The Association of Parents and Mothers of the gymnastics athletes of Barahona has raised its voice, requesting urgent intervention in the facilities of the Gymnastics Pavilion. The main point of concern is the bathrooms, which are in a deplorable state and lack the minimum conditions for their use. More than 30 girls train daily in this pavilion, being forced to use sanitary services in precarious conditions. Faced with this situation, the parents have called on the sports authorities, specifically the Regional Director of Sports, Rafelito Garo, and the Provincial Director, Cristian Núñez, to prioritize the rehabilitation of these facilities. Parents’ concern extends to their daughters’ health. The deterioration of the bathrooms and the accumulation of dust represent a source of contamination that could lead to diseases. They denounce that the bathrooms operate without water, lack adequate facilities and do not have basic elements such as toilet paper.

We have made this claim on multiple occasions and have not received the necessary attention. However, we reiterate that we will continue to raise our voices to local, regional, and national authorities so that our athletes can have a pavilion in decent conditions.

Carla Vielna, president of the Parents’ AssociationCarla Vielna, president of the Association, has stated that this is not the first time this complaint has been raised. The community leader emphasized that the pavilion receives dozens of girls from Monday to Thursday, so guaranteeing adequate spaces for the practice of sports should be a priority for the Ministry of Sports.
