UEFA Imposes Sanctions on Barcelona After Match Against Inter Milan

UEFA has announced sanctions for players and coaching staff members of FC Barcelona, following the second leg of the Champions League semi-final against Inter Milan, a match that ended with the elimination of the Blaugrana team.

The match, which took place at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium, culminated in a score of 4-3, knocking Barcelona out of the competition.

Robert Lewandowski and Lamine Yamal have been fined 5,000 euros each for not complying with the anti-doping control protocol. UEFA indicates that both players did not immediately go to the designated room after the match, an infraction contemplated in articles 21.8 and 21.10 a) of the Anti-Doping Regulations.

Regarding the technical body, coach Hansi Flick has received a one-match suspension and a fine of 20,000 euros. The sanction is due to his failure to comply with the basic rules of conduct, according to articles 11 (1) and 11 (2) of the Disciplinary Regulations. The referee’s report indicates that Flick hit the bench in the final minutes of the match and, subsequently, publicly questioned the referee’s decisions.

Marcus Sorg, the club’s second coach, has also been suspended for one match and fined 20,000 euros for the same disciplinary reasons.

FC Barcelona will have to face two additional fines: 5,250 euros for throwing objects and 2,500 euros for setting off flares in the stands, in accordance with article 16.2 of the regulations.

For its part, Inter Milan has been fined 22,000 euros for blocking public access and 11,500 euros for lighting flares, as well as receiving a warning for improper team conduct, under Article 15 (4) of the Disciplinary Regulations.

UEFA reiterates that these sanctions are part of its commitment to enforce safety, conduct, and anti-doping regulations in all its competitions.
