Trump Announces 2026 World Cup Draw in Washington D.C.
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has revealed that the group stage draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place on December 5th at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. The announcement was made from the Oval Office of the White House, with the presence of FIFA President Gianni Infantino, and government members, including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem. The tournament, which will be held in 16 cities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico between June 11 and July 19, 2026, will feature the participation of 48 national teams, a significant increase compared to previous editions.Before the announcement, Trump visited the Kennedy Center facilities to oversee the refurbishment work. The president highlighted that this event will be “the largest and most complex set of events in the history of sports”, comparing it to the organization of multiple Super Bowls in a short period. During the ceremony, Infantino presented Trump with the World Cup trophy. Trump, laughing, asked if he could keep the trophy and suggested he would keep it in the Oval Office.
