Towns gets cut in eye, but leads Knicks to epic victory over Nuggets

New York – Dominican center Karl-Anthony Towns suffered a cut above his right eye during the match between the New York Knicks and the Denver Nuggets, where the home team won 134-127 after two overtime periods, at Madison Square Garden.

The incident occurred in the first quarter of the game, when Towns collided with Spencer Jones while heading towards the basket. The hit caused a visible wound on his face, with 30.8 seconds left to finish the first period.

Towns received medical attention on the court, was bandaged and, after executing the corresponding free throws, retired to the locker room for a more exhaustive evaluation.

Despite the mishap, the Dominican player returned to the game and finished with 24 points and 12 rebounds in 31 minutes, being fundamental in New York’s victory.

The game, which went to two overtimes, had Jalen Brunson as the offensive figure, contributing 42 points and nine assists, leading the Knicks in crucial moments. OG Anunoby contributed 20 points and Landry Shamet added 16 from the bench.

From Denver, Nikola Jokic achieved a triple-double with 30 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists, while Jamal Murray scored 39 points, keeping the game contested until the end.

So far, the Knicks have not released any further information about potential consequences of the injury suffered by Towns.
