Toros del Este Roar in the Cibao: They Defeat the Águilas Cibaeñas
Santiago – Los Toros del Este demonstrated their power by defeating the Águilas Cibaeñas 3-0 at the Cibao Stadium this Wednesday, consolidating their position in second place in the Round Robin of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM).
The game was marked by a solid combined performance from the mound and a timely hit by Jeimer Candelario, which drove in the victory for the Bulls.
Panamanian opener Jaime Barría started the game for the Toros, throwing five impeccable innings without allowing runs. Despite his outstanding work, Barría did not get the decision.
The bullpen maintained the shutout, with Emailín Montilla earning the victory. Jimmy Yacabonis and J.C. Mejía also shone on the mound, while Joe Corbett secured the win with his fifth save of the Round Robin.
The Toros’ pitching handcuffed the Eagles’ offense, who were unable to capitalize on their opportunities, going 0-9 with runners in scoring position and leaving nine men on base.
Oscar De la Cruz, the Eagles’ starting pitcher, took the loss despite his solid performance of six innings.
The Bulls’ offense broke out in the eighth inning. Jeimer Candelario hit a double that drove in two runs, followed by a sacrifice bunt by Onix Vega and a fly ball by Sergio Alcántara that added the third run.
