Toros del Este roar with power and surpass Gigantes del Cibao
La Romana – Los Toros del Este demonstrated their offensive prowess this Sunday by defeating the Gigantes del Cibao with a score of 10-6 at the Francisco A. Micheli Stadium, in an exciting day of the Round Robin.
The Bulls’ offense was led by Eloy Jiménez, Sergio Alcántara, and Bryan De La Cruz, who hit key home runs for the victory.
Eloy Jiménez stood out with a home run and three RBIs, while Sergio Alcántara contributed a two-run homer and De La Cruz hit a solo shot. The Toros managed to score their 10 runs with nine hits, including five extra-base hits, among them two doubles and three home runs, totaling five home runs this postseason.
This was Jiménez’s first home run in the Round Robin, extending his streak of consecutive games with RBIs to four. In addition, he has hit in six of the seven games in which he has participated in this stage.
The triumph puts the Toros with a 5-2 record, consolidating them in second place in the standings. They have won two consecutive games and are two games ahead of third place, being only one game away from the lead, held by the Leones del Escogido (6-1).
In the mound, Enny Romero (1-0) earned the victory after pitching five innings, allowing three runs, four hits, one walk, and striking out three batters, the best performance by a taurine starter in this Round Robin. The Toros took the lead in the first inning with a triple by Gilberto Celestino, who then scored thanks to a sacrifice fly by Luis Liberato. The Gigantes responded in the third inning with a three-run home run by Francisco Mejía, putting the score at 3-1 in their favor.
The Bulls’ response was immediate. With runners on base, Eloy Jiménez hit a three-run home run, giving the home team the lead again (4-3).
In the sixth inning, the Bulls extended their lead with a four-run rally, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Tres Barrera and a two-run homer by Sergio Alcántara, setting the score at 8-3.
The Giants closed the gap to 8-5 in the seventh with a two-run double by Ismael Munguía, but Bryan De La Cruz hit his second home run of the Round Robin, extending the lead for the home team.
