Toros del Este: De La Cruz and Celestino shine, records and victory against Águilas

SANTIAGO – Bryan De La Cruz and Gilberto Celestino shone brightly for the Toros del Este, leading the 6-3 victory over the Águilas Cibaeñas in the closing of the regular season. The match took place at the Cibao Stadium.

De La Cruz and a historic record

Bryan De La Cruz had a stellar performance, driving in 40 runs in the 2025-26 season. This achievement not only secured him a new record for the franchise in 50-game seasons, surpassing Juan Melo’s 39 RBIs in the 2001-02 season, but also equaled the club’s historical mark set by George Bell in the 1983-84 season. De La Cruz joins a select group of players with 40 or more RBIs in 50-game tournaments in LIDOM history.

Celestino sets new record

Gilberto Celestino also left his mark on the game, scoring his career number 37 of the campaign. This mark represents a new record for native players of the Toros del Este, surpassing the previous record of Ronny Simón (36 in 2023-24). With this victory, the Bulls finished the regular season with a record of 27-22, closing with two consecutive victories and 49 games played, after the cancellation of the game on Monday 22 against the Eagles by joint decision of the league and both teams.

Ángel Felipe took the victory (1-0, 0.00), pitching a shutout with two strikeouts. José Adames earned the save (1), while Osvaldo Bidó took the loss (0-1, 5.40).

Upcoming commitments

The Toros del Este will start the Round Robin this Saturday the 27th, receiving the Gigantes del Cibao at the Francisco A. Micheli Stadium at 7:30 pm. On Sunday the 28th they will face the Escogido in Santo Domingo, on Monday they will visit Santiago and on Tuesday the 30th they will return to La Romana to face the Águilas before the New Year’s break.
