Bryan De La Cruz and Gilberto Celestino: Toros del Este make history against the Águilas Cibaeñas

In a vibrant encounter held at the Cibao Stadium, Bryan De La Cruz and Gilberto Celestino led the Toros del Este to a crucial 6-3 victory over the Águilas Cibaeñas, marking the end of the regular season. De La Cruz, with his outstanding performance, drove in 40 runs in the 2025-26 season, setting a new record for the franchise in 50-game campaigns. He surpassed the previous mark of Juan Melo (39) established in the 2001-02 season. In addition, he tied the club’s historical record for most RBIs in a season, achieved by George Bell in the 1983-84 season.

With this achievement, De La Cruz joins a select group of players who have driven in 40 or more runs in tournaments of 50 games in the history of the LIDOM:

  • Víctor Díaz: 50 (2008-09)
  • Juan Francisco: 42 (2009-10)
  • Domingo Martínez: 40 (1994-95)
  • José Oliva: 40 (1997-98)
  • Bryan De La Cruz: 40 (2025-26)

Celestino sets new scoring record

Gilberto Celestino also left his mark on the game by scoring his 37th run of the season, setting a new record for native players of the Toros del Este. Celestino surpassed the previous record of Ronny Simón (36 in 2023-24). With this victory, the Bulls finished the regular season with a 27-22 record, culminating in two consecutive wins. The team played 49 games, after the cancellation of the Monday 22nd game against the Eagles.

Performance from the mound

Ángel Felipe (1-0, 0.00) took the victory, pitching a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. José Adames earned the save (1), while Osvaldo Bidó (0-1, 5.40) took the loss, allowing three runs and six hits in three innings.

Upcoming commitments

Los Toros del Este will start the Round Robin this Saturday 27th, receiving the Gigantes del Cibao at the Francisco A. Micheli Stadium at 7:30 pm. On Sunday 28th they will travel to Santo Domingo to face the Escogido, on Monday they will visit Santiago and on Tuesday 30th they will return to La Romana to face the Águilas before the New Year’s break.
