Miami – The Detroit Tigers bounced back from Saturday’s defeat and secured a solid 2-0 victory this Sunday against the Marlins at loanDepot park. Venezuelan pitcher Keider Montero was the key figure in the match.
Montero, who took on the role of opener, pitched five scoreless innings, showing great control on the mound. He only allowed three hits and struck out five batters in 76 pitches, dominating Miami’s offense.
The Tigers’ bullpen also fulfilled its function. Mexican José Urquidy, in his return to the Major Leagues since October 2023, retired four outs effectively. Tommy Kahnle took care of the seventh inning, and Will Vest closed the game in the ninth, despite conceding a single and a walk before securing the last two outs.
The two runs of the game came in the second inning, the result of defensive errors by Miami. Spencer Torkelson advanced from first to third due to a bad throw by Máximo Acosta, and scored thanks to an error by Troy Johnston. Dillon Dingler drove in Colt Keith with a single to extend the lead.
With this victory, Detroit avoided the sweep in Miami and regained confidence after two consecutive losses in the series. Montero’s performance and the bullpen’s performance were crucial for the triumph.
