Caribbean Queens Celebrate Epic Victory against South Korea!

Santo Domingo – The Queens of the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic’s national women’s volleyball team, starred in an exciting match this Sunday, defeating South Korea with a score of 3-2 (19-25, 25-17, 19-25, 25-20, 16-14). With this victory, the Dominicans close the second phase of the Volleyball Nations League with a 2-2 record, adding a total of 4 wins and 4 losses in the competition. The match, played on Asian territory, demonstrated the tenacity and competitive spirit of the Caribbean women, who managed to overcome adversity and secure a crucial victory heading into the third phase. The Dominican offensive attack was led by an unstoppable Brayelin Martínez, who accumulated 24 points. Gaila González contributed 22 points, followed by Yonkaira Peña with 17. Geraldine González also had an outstanding performance in defense, adding 11 points and fundamental blocks. Despite the injuries of Jineirys Martínez and Cándida Arias, and the scare with libero Yaneiris Rodríguez, who left the game after an incident in the first set, the team maintained its concentration and determination. Larismel Martínez, who came in as a substitute, played an important role. South Korea put up a strong resistance, with “Seoyoung Yuk” standing out with 20 points, and “Sohwi Kang” and “Seonwoo” contributing 16 each. The Asians made it difficult for the Dominicans’ game, especially in the third quarter. The mental fortitude and offensive power of the Dominican Republic team became evident in the fourth and fifth sets. Brayelin Martínez sealed the fourth set with four consecutive points. In the tie-break, the Dominicans took an initial lead of 8-3 and, despite South Korea’s reaction, secured the victory with decisive blocks from Geraldine and effective attacks from Gaila and Peña. With this triumph, the Queens of the Caribbean return to Santo Domingo to prepare for the next phase of the Nations League, which will begin on July 10, facing China.
