Abadina Announces 2026 Women’s Superior Tournament Dedicated to Milagros Ortiz Bosch
The National District Basketball Association (Abadina) officially announced the celebration of the 40th Women’s Superior Basketball Tournament (TBSF Distrito 2026). The event, scheduled to begin on Friday, May 22nd of this year, will bear the name of the Seaboard Cup.
The dedication of this prestigious tournament falls on the figure of Doña Milagros Ortiz Bosch, a prominent political leader, general director of Ethics and Governmental Integrity (DIGEIG) and advisor to the Executive Branch on ethics, transparency and anti-corruption issues. In addition, Ortiz Bosch is the first vice president of the PRM.
Edwin Castillo (Tatico), president of Abadina, offered details about the competition. The participating teams will be: San Carlos, current champion; Mauricio Báez; San Lázaro; and La Ciénega. The matches will be held at the sports center of the Ensanche Luperón club.
Castillo informed that the inaugural match will pit La Ciénaga against San Lázaro at 5:00 in the afternoon. Subsequently, the opening ceremony will take place, followed by the match between the finalists of the 2025 tournament, San Carlos and Mauricio Báez, at 7:00 in the evening.
Castillo’s statements were made public during a press conference held in the James Rodríguez conference room of the Ministry of Sports. The event was attended by the Vice Minister of Sports and Immortal Fernando Teruel; congresswoman Melina Sánchez, representative of the National District; and the Immortal José -Boyón- Domínguez, secretary of Abadina.
Also present were Junior Páez (Jipy), vice president of the Dominican Basketball Federation (Fedombal); Carlos Gerónimo, technical director; and Fernando Geraldino, Social Responsibility manager of the company Seaboard “Clean Energy”.
In his central words, Castillo announced that congresswoman Melina Sánchez will be the president of the Organizing Committee of the Women’s TBS 2026. During the press conference, Teruel, Sánchez, Páez and Geraldino also intervened.
Gerónimo detailed that the games will be played on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 6:00 PM, and on Saturdays from 4:00 PM, with a double header during the regular season. The teams may have two national reinforcements and two U20 players.
The regular season will be played in three rounds, with each team playing nine games (three against each opponent). The team that finishes in first place will advance directly to the final series, while the second and third place teams will play a best-of-3-2 semifinal.
The final for the title will be played between the winner of the first place and the winner of the semifinal, in a best-of-five-three format.
