Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek, currently number 3 in the world, was crowned champion of the WTA 1,000 Cincinnati, United States, after defeating Italian Jasmine Paolini (number 9) with a score of 7-5 and 6-4 in one hour and 49 minutes.
This triumph represents the 24th title in Swiatek’s career and her eleventh WTA 1,000. An impressive achievement that places her as one of the most outstanding players in this category, surpassed only by Serena Williams, who has 13 WTA 1,000 titles.
Swiatek, after reaching the semifinals in Cincinnati on two previous occasions, demonstrated her determination by overcoming this barrier and winning the championship.
The victory in Cincinnati not only grants her a prestigious title, but also allows Swiatek to rise to number 2 in the WTA ranking, surpassing Coco Gauff. In addition, it positions her as the second seed in the US Open, which starts this week, avoiding a possible match against Aryna Sabalenka until the final.
