Million-Dollar Investment for Sports in Santo Domingo

The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kelvin Cruz, announced the start of the construction of 30 multipurpose and covered pavilions in Greater Santo Domingo. This initiative represents an investment of over 800 million pesos, aimed at boosting sports and social development in the region.

These new facilities will benefit thousands of young athletes, community and social leaders, offering spaces for various activities. The construction of these pavilions will be carried out in popular sectors of the National District and in the municipalities of Santo Domingo East, West, Los Alcarrizos and Pedro Brand.

Among the neighborhoods that will be positively impacted are Cristo Rey, Ensanche Espaillat, Guachupita, Arroyo Hondo, Honduras, Mata Hambre, Independencia, Renacimiento and El Milloncito, among others.

These multipurpose facilities will fulfill more than one objective because they will serve for practicing sports, social and political activities, religious and community activities without distinction of political-party sympathies.

Minister Cruz detailed that the financing for these works comes from own resources, thanks to a significant increase in the budget of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec) for the year 2025, approved by President Luis Abinader.

The works will begin after a bidding process, complying with the General Law of Purchases and Public Contracting. The awarded companies were selected based on their economic offers, quality, execution time, and other requirements specified in the terms and conditions.

Minister Cruz recalled that this project is part of a promise made by President Luis Abinader during the commemoration of National Clubs Day, reaffirming the commitment to promote sports activities for youth.
