Sports Federations Receive Workshop on Transparency and Accountability

Santo Domingo.- The National Sports Federations participated this Friday in a workshop on Good Practices of Transparency and Accountability, organized by the Ministry of the Presidency and the Chamber of Accounts of the Dominican Republic. The training, held in the Auditorium of the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame, was attended by approximately 70 people, including presidents and finance officers of the federations. The workshop was led by the Center for the Promotion and Promotion of Non-Profit Associations (ASFL), attached to the Ministry of the Presidency. This workshop is the first in a series of events designed to guide federations in the preparation and presentation of financial reports to the Accounts Chamber, as well as in the transparency of the use of state resources.

We do all this with the purpose of strengthening the sports movement and ensuring that more children and young people have access to sports.

Ms. Vielka Polanco, Executive Director of the Center for the Promotion and Development of Non-Profit Associations, emphasized the importance of these trainings for the federations. In her speech, Polanco addressed topics such as good governance practices, the quality of accountability, and transparency in digital media. Engineer Garibaldy Bautista, president of the Dominican Olympic Committee, expressed his hope that the workshops will have a positive impact on the image of sports federations.

I hope that what we have learned here we put into practice, since we are always in the eye of the hurricane of public opinion. These workshops will serve to strengthen the actions and transparency of the federations and the Olympic movement.

In representation of the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, the Vice Minister Franklyn de la Mota attended, who described the day as “a special day”, highlighting the need to continue working on transparency and the proper management of resources allocated to sports. Ivette Melo, director of Budget Analysis of the Chamber of Accounts, represented the president of the entity, Emma Polanco. Melo thanked the participation and highlighted the importance of transparency in the management of public funds. Analysts María Ysabel Terrero and Jasmín Urbáez, along with Michelle Cosme, led the first session of the workshop. Leivi Pérez, in charge of the Accountability Division of the National Center for the Promotion of Non-Profit Associations, presented the benefits of automation and digitalization in the accountability process.
