Juan Soto Could Debut with the Licey: The Decision is on the Field

The Tigres del Licey fans could be about to witness the debut of Juan Soto in the current season of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM). However, the participation of the star outfielder will depend on the team’s performance in the remaining crucial games of the regular season. Audo Vicente, general manager of the Licey, confirmed that Soto has permission from the New York Mets to play in Dominican winter baseball. The final decision on his participation will be based on the team’s competitive situation in the last games.

He has the permission, what we must do is wait to see what happens at least today.

The Tigres, with a record of 21-27, are in last place in the standings. They face the Gigantes del Cibao (22-26) tonight, who are in third place, with a minimal advantage over the blues. A victory would keep Licey’s hopes alive to fight for one of the four qualifying spots, where Águilas Cibaeñas and Toros del Este have already secured their place. Vicente clarified that Soto will not play today, but a victory for Licey would open the doors for his immediate debut.

We have to come out on top today so that he can participate.

If it materializes, the presence of Juan Soto in the LIDOM would be a historic event, as he is the player with the highest contract in the history of baseball, playing for a Dominican team in a winter league.
