Sinner Advances to Australian Open Semifinals and Will Face Djokovic

Melbourne, Australia – Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner, current champion of the last two editions, secured his place in the semifinals of the Australian Open after defeating American Ben Shelton in three sets (6-3, 6-4, 6-4). This victory marks Sinner’s ninth consecutive semifinal in a Grand Slam and the third in the Australian Open. Sinner, ranked number two in the world, demonstrated his superiority against Shelton, adding his ninth victory in ten direct encounters. The match lasted two hours and 24 minutes. In the semifinals, Sinner will face the Serbian Novak Djokovic.

Djokovic Advances Due to Musetti’s Retirement

Novak Djokovic also secured his place in the semifinals, benefiting from the withdrawal of his Italian compatriot Lorenzo Musetti, who was forced to abandon the match due to an injury. Musetti, despite having won the first two sets with scores of 6-4 and 6-3, suffered an injury to the abductor of his right leg at the beginning of the third set. After receiving medical assistance and trying to continue, Musetti couldn’t recover and was forced to retire when the score in the third set was 3-1 in favor of Djokovic, after one hour and 59 minutes of play. Musetti’s injury was a hard blow for the Italian, who had expressed feeling at a great level of play before the unfortunate situation.
