Shohei Ohtani: Trading Card Reaches Record Price
Shohei Ohtani’s global renown continues to expand beyond the playing field. An autographed Topps Gold Logoman card of the Dodgers of Los Angeles’ star player was auctioned for $3 million, including the buyer’s premium, setting a new milestone for collectibles of the Japanese baseball player.
This card, considered unique as it is “1-of-1”, features Ohtani’s signature and a patch with the gold logo used on an official player uniform to commemorate his award as the 2024 National League Most Valuable Player. This special program was created to honor the winners of the major sports awards.
The patch on the card comes from a uniform that Ohtani wore on April 29, 2025, during a game against the Miami Marlins, where he hit his seventh home run of the season.
The historic card was discovered by Pete Anderson and his 11-year-old twin sons, Colton and Henry, in Minneapolis. The family decided to auction the piece through Fanatics, where bids exceeded one million dollars in less than 24 hours, reaching a record figure.
With this sale, the Gold Logoman surpassed the previous record for Ohtani cards, set by the 2024 Topps Black Logoman, and became the most expensive Dodgers card ever sold. It also surpassed the “1-of-1” autographed card of rookie Paul Skenes, auctioned last year for $1.1 million.
Historically, Ohtani’s card ranks among the most valuable of the modern era, although it does not surpass the 2019 Bowman Chrome Prospects Superfractor of Mike Trout, which reached $3.93 million in 2020. The most expensive card sold in 2025 remains the 1914 Babe Ruth rookie card, auctioned for $4.03 million.
The buyer of the Gold Logoman has not been revealed. The Anderson family reported that part of the proceeds will be reinvested in more collectibles and another portion will go to the children’s college funds.
The historical price achieved confirms that Shohei Ohtani’s collectibles are in a category of their own, reflecting the sporting, media, and cultural impact of one of the greatest stars of modern baseball.
