Ronny Mauricio Could Return to the Major Leagues with the Mets Tonight
Dominican player Ronny Mauricio could be back in the Major Leagues tonight with the New York Mets. The news comes after the injury of Mark Vientos, who had to leave Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers due to discomfort in his right thigh.
Although the team has not yet made an official announcement, sources indicate that Mauricio would join the team before the second game of the series against the current world champions.
The young 24-year-old infielder from San Pedro de Macorís is coming off a long recovery after suffering a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in December 2023, while playing with the Tigres del Licey in the Dominican league. After two surgeries, he was assigned in April to Triple-A Syracuse to complete his rehabilitation.
Since his return, Mauricio has shown great performance. In his last nine games in the minor leagues, he is batting .515 with three home runs and an impressive OPS of 1.382, indicating that he is ready to return to the highest level.
Defensive Versatility
In addition to his offensive ability, Mauricio provides defensive versatility. In his first MLB stint in 2023, he played 22 games at second base, five at third base, and two at shortstop. In Syracuse this year, he has expanded that versatility, including appearances in left field, which increases his options within the New York team.In his brief stint in the Major Leagues, Mauricio has played 26 games, accumulating 25 hits in 101 at-bats (.248 average), with four doubles, two home runs, nine RBIs, seven stolen bases, and an OPS of .643.
