Roman Anthony Ascends to the Major Leagues with the Red Sox

Gardener Roman Anthony, recognized as the number one prospect in Major League Baseball, has been called up to the Boston Red Sox’s main team. This move marks the beginning of a new stage for the organization.

Anthony, only 20 years old, officially debuted on the big team’s roster with the number 48. He was lined up as a right fielder and fifth batter in the game against the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park.

His arrival was expected, fueled by his recent performance in Triple-A Worcester, where he hit a 497-foot grand slam. His power, plate discipline, and maturity distinguish him as one of baseball’s most complete prospects.

What he has done offensively has been impressive. We knew he had power, but he has also shown great control in the strike zone.

Roster Settings

To make room on the team, Venezuelan outfielder Wilyer Abreu was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a left oblique strain. In addition, first baseman Ryan Noda was designated for assignment.

Anthony, a left-handed hitter, presents an offensive line of .288/.423/.491 with 10 home runs and 29 RBIs in 212 at-bats in Worcester this year. His versatility in the outfield gives Boston multiple defensive options.

This includes a possible move of Jarren Duran to center field and greater flexibility with Ceddanne Rafaela, who can also play in the infield.

Meteoric Rise

Selected in the third round of the 2022 Draft from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in South Florida, Anthony had a rapid ascent, going through Double-A and Triple-A in record time. He participated in the entire training camp with the big league team, indicating his high projection within the organization.

He’s a good player, we trust him. We know the transition to the Major Leagues isn’t easy, but Roman has shown he can handle it.
