MEXICO CITY – At 43 years old, Dominican Robinson Canó remains active in the world of baseball, now as a prominent figure for the Diablos Rojos del México in the Mexican Baseball League, where he is in his third season.
With a brilliant career in Major League Baseball, Canó accumulated important achievements, including Gold Gloves, multiple All-Star Game appearances, a World Series title, and a Wins Above Replacement (bWAR) of 68.7. At the international level, he also left his mark by being the Most Valuable Player of the 2013 World Baseball Classic, leading the Dominican Republic to conquer the tournament undefeated.
In Dominican winter baseball, the experienced infielder was also key in the Estrellas Orientales’ championship in 2019, breaking a drought of more than five decades.
After a complicated final stage in the Majors, marked by suspensions and poor performance, Cano has revitalized his career since 2024 in Mexico, where he already has a batting title and two consecutive championships with the Diablos Rojos.
“Super happy with the treatment I have received from the owners, teammates, and fans,” expressed the Dominican, who batted .431 and .366 in his first two seasons with the scarlet team and maintains a .296 average at the start of the current season.
The native of San Pedro de Macorís has become a fan favorite, and was recently a special guest during the Mexico City Series 2026, held at the Alfredo Harp Helú Stadium, home of the Diablos.
Canó valued the opportunity for local fans to enjoy Major League Baseball in their country, while highlighting the growth of the competitive level in the Mexican league.
“It’s a great experience for the fans and for us. The league is very good, even better than I expected, and it keeps improving every day,” he said.
With his performance and leadership, Canó continues to demonstrate that he still has much to contribute to professional baseball, establishing himself as a key figure on and off the field in the Mexican circuit.
