Richard Bautista, “Athlete of the Year” from Abadina; Odalis Sánchez Recognized

Santo Domingo, DR. The Basketball Association of the National District (Abadina) held its traditional annual awards ceremony, highlighting key figures in local basketball.

Richard Bautista, Athlete of the Year

Richard Bautista, a player from the Mauricio Báez club, was awarded “Athlete of the Year.” Bautista, known as “Manito” and hailing from the El Caliche club of Cristo Rey, was recognized for his outstanding performance in the TBS Distrito 2025. His leadership led the Mauricio Báez club to conquer its tenth championship, solidifying its impact on district basketball.

Recognition to Odalis Sánchez

The journalist Odalis Sánchez was also honored for his career and dedication to basketball. With almost 25 years of experience, Sánchez has extensively covered basketball events in the National District, including minor and major Abadina tournaments. Sánchez has been the press director of the TBS District for the last eight years and also holds the same role in the Dominican Basketball Federation (Fedombal) and in the senior men’s national team, both in national and international events.

Other Recognitions

In addition to Bautista and Sánchez, Abadina recognized other important figures:
  • Jonathan Betances (Dom Deportes), for his work on social media.
  • El Caliche club from Cristo Rey, as “More Development”, represented by coach Edinson Javier (Pippen) and Leonel Batista.
  • Jairo Núñez, from Los Pioneros club, from Villas Agrícolas.
The ceremony, led by Edwin Castillo (Tatico), president of Abadina, took place at the Volleyball Training Center of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.

Bameso, Club of the Year

The main recognition of the night was for Bameso, chosen “Club of the Year”. Castillo was accompanied by the directors Héctor Junior Gil (vice president), José -Boyón- Domínguez (general secretary), Alex Romero (Organization), Santos María (press), Anthony Fernández and César Pilarte. The directors of Abadina presented the plaque to Alberto Castro and Augusto Castro (president and advisor of Bameso, respectively), and to the lawyer Pedro Lara, also an advisor to Bameso.
