LIMA, Peru. Judo and athletics led the day for the Dominican delegation at the XX Bolivarian Games, adding two gold medals, one silver and five bronze. These medals also came from rowing, taekwondo and table tennis, consolidating the Dominican Republic in eighth place in the general medal table, with a total of 30 medals: four gold, eight silver and 18 bronze.

Athletics: Yeral Núñez shines in the 400-meter hurdles
Sprinter Yeral Núñez conquered the gold medal in the 400-meter hurdles, with a time of 50.81 seconds at the Videna Athletic Stadium. Sebastián Mosquera Bastidas, from Colombia, obtained the silver (51.53), while the Ecuadorian Ian Pata Reasco took the bronze (51.62). Juander Santos Aquino, also Dominican, took fifth place with a time of 52.84 seconds. In addition, Liranyi Alonso and Patricia Siné advanced to the final of the 100-meter dash after registering 11.59 and 11.63 seconds, respectively. The final is scheduled for this Tuesday at 2:15 p.m. (3:15 p.m. RD time). Judo began its participation with three medals, highlighting the gold of Maikor Louis Pierre in the -73 kg category, after winning his three fights, including the final by ippon against the Venezuelan Andrés Pariche.- Heriberto de Aza (-66 kg) won the bronze medal, defeating Chilean Lucas Fernández by ippon.
- Samanta Josefa (-52 kg) won the bronze medal match against Paloma Narváez, from Paraguay.
Rowing: Silver in men’s lightweight double sculls
The duet composed of Ignacio Vásquez and Wilson José Restituyo won the silver medal in the men’s lightweight double sculls (LM2X), recording a time of 1:28.44 in the 200 meters. Venezuela won the gold and Chile the bronze. The rowing will continue this Tuesday with Vásquez (men’s single) and Wendy Simó Peña (women’s single).Table tennis: Bronze in both team events
Dominican table tennis won two team bronzes:
- Women’s team: Eva Brito, Yasiris Ortiz, Arianna Estrella, and Esmerlin Castro finished with a 2-2 record.
- Men’s team: achieved a 1-2 record, with a victory over Bolivia.
Taekwondo: Bronze for the Men’s Team
The men’s taekwondo team —made up of Cristofer Reyes, Pedro Martínez, and Saúl Taveras— won the bronze medal after defeating Paraguay 2-0 in the quarterfinals and losing 0-2 to Peru in the semifinals. Dominican tennis had a difficult start, with three defeats on its first day:
- Ana Zamburek fell 7-5, 6-3 to Maria Torres (Colombia).
- Kelly Wilford lost 6-2, 6-1 to Sofia Cabezas (Venezuela).
- In mixed doubles, Zamburek/Muñoz were defeated by Pérez/Gómez (Colombia) 6-3, 6-1, 10-6.
