Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – The country is preparing to be the epicenter of regional sports with the celebration of the Central American and Caribbean Weightlifting Championship. The inauguration is scheduled for this Monday at 4:00 PM in the José Joaquín Puello pavilion of the Parque del Este.
The lawyer José Antolín Polanco Rosa, president of the Organizing Committee, emphasized the Dominican Republic’s preparation to host this high-profile tournament. This event will not only evaluate the best weightlifters in the region, but will also be a crucial step towards international commitments. This championship is the only weightlifting qualifying event for the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, which will take place from July 24 to August 8 of next year. In addition, it will serve as the first test event for said multi-sport event. A massive participation is expected, with 247 representatives from 23 countries, including 161 athletes, as well as delegates, coaches and international technical officials.This championship represents an event of great importance for the country due to its sporting impact and its qualifying significance.

The tournament is dedicated to licenciado Luisín Mejía, president of Centro Caribe Sport, member of the International Olympic Committee and former president of the Dominican Olympic Committee. Among the confirmed delegations are athletes and officials from Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, El Salvador, Aruba, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados, Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, Saint Kitts, Saint Lucia, Venezuela, Virgin Islands and the Dominican Republic. The Organizing Committee is made up of José Antolín Polanco Rosa, along with vice presidents Tony Mesa and Eddy González; Elisandro Pérez, secretary; Reymundo Gantier, treasurer; Willian Ozuna, general director; Maritza Ortiz, technical director, and Yuderqui Contreras, member.These figures consolidate this championship as a key event in regional sports.
