From the United States, Dominican third baseman José Ramírez once again demonstrated his power by hitting his 19th home run of the season. However, this effort was not enough to prevent the Cleveland Guardians’ defeat against the Oakland Athletics, who had an outstanding performance by the also Dominican Luis Severino. Severino (3-11) had a solid start from the mound, pitching five innings where he allowed three hits and two runs, striking out three and earning his third win of the year. The Athletics’ offense backed his work with 14 hits, including nine extra-base hits: five doubles, a triple, and three home runs. Ramírez momentarily put Cleveland ahead with a two-run hit in the third inning, raising his lifetime total to 274 home runs, leaving him 26 short of reaching the historic mark of 300 in his 13 seasons in the Major Leagues. However, Oakland responded strongly. In the fourth inning, three consecutive doubles by Brent Rooker, Nick Kurtz, and Shea Langeliers, followed by a run-scoring single by Miguel Andújar, turned the score around to 3-2. In the final innings, Langeliers, Kurtz, and Jacob Wilson sealed the victory with home runs against Cleveland’s relief.
José Ramírez is 1 home run away from his fifth consecutive 20-20 season! What a player!
