Rafa Mir Processed for Sexual Assault: Case Details

Forward Rafa Mir, currently at Elche on loan from Sevilla, is facing legal proceedings for a sexual assault offense with carnal access and the use of violence. This was confirmed by sources from the High Court of Justice of the Valencian Community this Wednesday. A bail of 12,500 euros has been imposed to cover a possible sentence. In addition, the soccer player Pablo Jara is also being prosecuted for a similar crime, with a bail of five thousand euros. Both athletes are summoned for an “investigative statement” next Monday, October 13. In Mir’s case, and at the request of his lawyer, the statement will be made remotely. The investigation suggests that Mir, at that time a player on loan from Sevilla to Valencia, allegedly sexually assaulted on two occasions one of the two women whom he, Jara, and another friend had previously met at a nightclub in Valencia. The events occurred during the early hours of September 1, 2024, at Mir’s residence, located in an urbanization in Bétera (Valencia), specifically in the swimming pool and in a bathroom. The judge has also found indications of a sexual assault crime without carnal access and a minor crime of injuries by Jara, in relation to a second woman.

In September 2024, the police arrested Mir and Jara following the complaint of two women. The complainants stated that, after meeting at a nightclub, they went to the footballer’s house. There, Mir allegedly sexually assaulted one of them, while Jara touched and assaulted the other after she refused to have sexual relations. Mir, who was detained for two nights at the Civil Guard barracks, admitted to the judge that he had had sexual relations with the complainant, but insisted that they were consensual. The women reported that, after the incidents and after managing to escape from the soccer players, they were kicked out of the house in their underwear, and their belongings were thrown over the fence. A neighbor of the urbanization alerted the Bétera Police after hearing screams and observing the two disoriented young women in the street.

Elche is Pronounced

Elche has decided not to take disciplinary action against Rafa Mir after he was charged. Official club sources have confirmed that they trust in the player’s presumption of innocence. The club was aware of Mir’s situation before his incorporation and supports its coach, Eder Sarabia, who has publicly shown his support for the player.
