Qatar Aims to Host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games
The Qatar Olympic Committee has announced its bid to host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This initiative represents a significant milestone, as the Persian Gulf country seeks to be the first in the Middle East to host this prestigious sporting event. The official announcement, issued this Tuesday, confirms Qatar’s participation in the talks with the International Olympic Committee (IOC). This collaboration is part of a new process for the selection of the host city, demonstrating Qatar’s commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic movement.The Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, expressed his satisfaction with this candidacy. He highlighted the leadership position that the country has achieved in the international sports arena. Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee and the Bid Committee, emphasized his country’s belief in the power of sport. According to Al Thani, sport unites people, empowers individuals, and unleashes human potential, especially among young people. Qatar views sport as a driver of development and a platform to promote understanding and peace among nations, according to Al Thani. The country has hosted numerous international sporting events, including the 2022 World Cup, the 2019 World Athletics Championships, the 2015 Men’s Handball World Championship, and the Padel World Championship.
