Albert Pujols: “The mission is to win the World Baseball Classic”
The legendary baseball player, Albert Pujols, has made clear the ambition of the Dominican Republic for the next World Baseball Classic: to conquer the championship for the second time. Pujols, who works alongside the team’s general manager, Nelson Cruz, in setting up the squad, assured that the roster is practically defined.Pujols acknowledges the importance of forming a competitive team, especially after the disappointing performance of 2023, where the Dominican Republic was eliminated in the first round. The leader emphasized the team’s responsibility to seek victory. “Everyone knows that we have a responsibility and the responsibility is to try to win that championship once again,” Pujols affirmed. Dominican Republic will share Group D of the next World Baseball Classic with Venezuela, Netherlands, Israel, and Nicaragua. The last time they advanced to the second phase was in 2017.I believe that 95 percent of the roster is already set. The other 5 percent is because we have been scouting several guys who are playing in the winter league who also have that chance to represent and I believe that our country and the fans are going to feel happy and satisfied with the roster that Nelson Cruz and I and the group are forming.
