Recognized Baseball Figures in Puerto Plata

Puerto Plata was the scene of an emotional recognition of outstanding Dominican and Puerto Rican baseball players, both active and retired from Major League Baseball. The ceremony, organized by the Puerto Plata International Sport Foundation, celebrated the fifth edition of its baseball clinic for children, honoring the legacy, trajectory, and continuous support of these figures to the sport and the community. The event, led by engineer Chito Polo and Frank Alameda, presented recognition plaques to several outstanding players.

The activities of the 5th Humanitarian and Sports Clinics “Achieving Dreams” began on Friday the 16th with beach cleaning days, delivery of community aid, and a women’s softball game. Prior to this match, Nelson Cruz, general manager of the Dominican team for the 2026 World Baseball Classic, was recognized for his support of the foundation. The event was attended by former Major League players such as Bartolo Colón, Carlos Martínez and Jhonny Brito, along with the recently signed Wandy Asigen, and a group of prospects from Major League organizations in Puerto Plata.

“This is the fifth installment of an activity that has already become an annual tradition, where professional baseball players share their experiences and knowledge, inspiring many young people from Puerto Plata who dream of reaching professional baseball,” expressed Chito Polo.

More than 500 children from different baseball leagues in the province participated in specialized clinics and received sports equipment donated by the foundation. During the day, a posthumous tribute was paid to Octavio Dotel, promoter of the initiative, with the presentation of a commemorative painting that will be delivered to his family. Frank Alameda highlighted the importance of continuing with this type of event, focused on promoting sports and offering growth opportunities to young people.
