PSG Condemned to Pay Millions to Mbappé

The Paris Labor Court has ruled in favor of Kylian Mbappé, obliging Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to settle a significant salary debt with the French striker. The court decision, issued this Tuesday, implies that the Parisian club must pay the salary arrears owed to the player, although other claims filed by Mbappé were dismissed. PSG will have to pay approximately 55 million euros corresponding to outstanding salaries and bonuses, to which unpaid vacations are added, raising the total figure to 61 million, according to estimates by the footballer’s lawyers. The ruling also contemplates provisional execution, which means that PSG will have to make the payment even if it decides to appeal the decision.

He has always acted in good faith and with integrity

PSG Statement
In a statement, PSG assured that it will abide by the court’s decision and reserves the right to appeal. In addition, the club defended its actions and affirmed that it is focused on the future, seeking unity and collective success, while wishing Mbappé the best in his career. The court dismissed PSG’s claims, which amounted to 450 million euros, where they accused the player of disloyal behavior.

Reactions from Mbappé’s Lawyers

Mbappé’s legal representatives expressed satisfaction with the ruling, even though the amount recognized is less than initially requested.

We have been claiming the payment of the salaries owed to him for 18 months and that is exactly what we have achieved

Delphine Verheyden, Mbappé’s lawyer
Delphine Verheyden, Mbappé’s lawyer, highlighted the achievement of obtaining payment of the owed salaries. Frédérique Cassereau, also the player’s lawyer, called the sentence “historic”.

The Origin of the Conflict

The legal conflict arose after Mbappé’s departure from PSG to Real Madrid in the summer of 2024, when the forward became free after his contract ended. The club, chaired by Nasser Al Khelaifi, stopped paying the last three months of salary, considering that there was a verbal agreement by which the player renounced those amounts after communicating that he would not execute the third optional year of his contract, which extended until 2026. Mbappé denied the validity of the agreement, arguing that it was never formalized and that no specific figures were agreed upon, arguments that were supported by the labor court.
