Atlético de Madrid suffers tough defeat against PSG in its debut

Atlético de Madrid suffered a resounding 4-0 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in their first match of the Club World Cup. The match, played in Pasadena, California, saw the Parisian team, led by Luis Enrique, impose their game from the start.

PSG’s goals were scored by Fabián, Vitinha, Senny Mayulu, and Lee Kang-in, the latter from a penalty. Despite not being the most crucial match, the defeat represented a hard blow for the Colchonero team.

The PSG, although it took a while to warm up, demonstrated its superiority. The initial pace was slow, but after fifteen minutes, Luis Enrique’s team accelerated, generating danger and warning the Atlético defense.

The first goal came in the 19th minute, with Fabián scoring a powerful shot from the edge of the area. PSG continued to dominate and take advantage of Atlético’s losses, who ceded possession of the ball.

The Atlético defense, with Robin Le Normand and Clément Lenglet cautioned, appeared disorganized. Antoine Griezmann, starting in the initial lineup, had a discreet performance.

Before the break, Vitinha extended PSG’s lead, making the score 2-0. In the second half, Atlético tried to react, but a goal disallowed after VAR review and Lenglet’s subsequent expulsion for a second yellow card complicated their situation.

Senny Mayulu scored the third goal for PSG, and Lee Kang-in sealed the victory with a penalty, establishing the final 4-0.

Atlético de Madrid will face the Seattle Sounders of the MLS next Thursday in a key match for their aspirations in the tournament.
