National Police Recognizes Major General for Support of Sports

The Sports Directorate of the National Police (PN) paid tribute to Major General Ramón Antonio Guzmán Peralta, highlighting his significant contribution to the development of police sports and his support for sports projects in vulnerable communities.

It is a gesture of gratitude from all the members of our Directorate.

General Jacobo Mateo Moquete, Director of Sports of the institution, delivered an infographic to Major General Guzmán Peralta, which summarizes the sporting achievements during his management. During his administration, the sports area was elevated to the rank of Directorate, technical staff was increased, and sports initiatives were implemented in areas such as Los Guandules, La Ciénega and La Zurza, strengthening the relationship of the Police with clubs, churches and community leaders. Inclusion was promoted, allowing the participation of athletes such as Cristopher Melenciano, a deaf-mute athlete and international medalist, champion of the 400 meters in the 2024 and 2025 Military Sports Games. The Cycling and Boxing teams, champions of the FA-PN 2025 Sports Games, were present at the recognition, celebrating their return to first place after 15 and 10 years, respectively. The Weightlifting discipline was represented by Olympic weightlifters Beatriz Pirón and Yudelina Mejía, Sergeant and Corporal of the Police respectively. Last October, Yudelina Mejía achieved a milestone by winning the Gold medal at the World Weightlifting Championship in Norway, becoming the first Dominican to achieve it in a world or Olympic event in the discipline. Mejía was promoted to Sergeant and Beatriz Pirón will be promoted to Second Lieutenant after obtaining the university degree of Bachelor of Accounting.
