Pirates Bolster Bullpen: Dominican Wilber Dotel Called Up to MLB

SAN LUIS – The Pittsburgh Pirates announced this Wednesday the promotion of Dominican pitcher Wilber Dotel to the Major League team. This decision seeks to strengthen the team’s bullpen.

To make room on the roster, the organization sent reliever Isaac Mattson to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Dotel has shown a remarkable performance in his first appearances with Pittsburgh this season, achieving an ERA of 1.35 in 6.2 innings pitched across three games.

The Dominican right-handed pitcher is shaping up to be a valuable asset for the middle innings, thanks to his fastball that reaches speeds over 90 miles per hour and the confidence he has generated in the coaching staff.

Mattson, for his part, has experienced recent difficulties in closing the bullpen. Although he maintains an ERA of 4.12 in 21 games, he has allowed seven earned runs since April 30, which motivated his demotion to work on adjustments in the minor leagues.

With this move, the Pirates seek to add depth and stability to a bullpen that has shown inconsistencies during the season.

Dotel officially joined the team this Wednesday in St. Louis, where Pittsburgh continues its series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
