Cassis, France – The early hours of Friday were overshadowed by a worrying incident for Michel Platini, the French football legend and former UEFA president. His residence, located in the picturesque town of Cassis, southern France, was the scene of an assault. According to initial reports, several hooded individuals broke into the property while Platini, 70, was inside. Fortunately, the former player was unharmed, but he was the victim of the theft of a considerable amount of valuables, including medals and trophies obtained throughout his brilliant football career. The assault took place around 5:30 in the morning. Platini, alerted by noises in the garden, observed one of the assailants, dressed completely in black. Although the intruder fled upon being discovered, the criminals had already managed to steal numerous valuables, among them, trophies and recognitions that the former footballer kept in a shed in the garden. So far, it has not been confirmed whether the three Ballon d’Or awards that Platini won in 1983, 1984 and 1985 are among the stolen objects. Nor has the total value of the stolen items been publicly estimated. The Marseille Prosecutor’s Office has not yet issued an official statement. However, the authorities have launched an investigation for aggravated burglary. The case has been assigned to the Aubagne investigation brigade.
