Jeremy Peña Reaches 500 Hits and Altuve Shines with Two Home Runs in the Astros’ Victory
Houston – In an evening filled with emotions at Minute Maid Park, Dominican shortstop Jeremy Peña reached a significant milestone in his Major League career. The young player hit his 500th hit during the Houston Astros’ victory over the Seattle Mariners with a score of 9-2.
Peña achieved this mark with a powerful triple that went between left and center fields in the fourth inning. This hit drove in two runs, breaking the tie on the scoreboard and sealing his reaching 500 hits in the MLB. In addition, it forced the Seattle starting pitcher, George Kirby, to leave the game.
Venezuelan José Altuve was also a key figure in the Astros’ offense, standing out with two home runs and driving in four runs, his highest production so far this season. With these two home runs, one solo in the fifth inning and another of two runs in the sixth, Altuve added the 12th multi-home run game in his career.
Right-handed pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. had his longest outing of the year, pitching four and a third innings. He allowed five hits, two runs, and struck out eight, his most strikeouts so far this season. The win went to Shawn Dubin (1-0), who relieved and secured the final two outs of the fifth inning.
