Dominican Republic Athletics Team Ready for the World Championships

TOKYO, JAPAN – The Dominican Republic Athletics Team, led by Marileidy Paulino, finished their training for the World Championships. The event, which will begin this Friday, will bring together the most outstanding stars of world athletics. Engineer Alexis Peguero, president of the Dominican Athletics Federation, confirmed the information from Japan, where he is accompanying the national team. Alongside Paulino, Olympic medalists Lidio Feliz and Alexander Ogando will be competing, as well as Liranyi Alonzo, who will debut in the 200 meters.

Marileidy Paulino, world and Olympic champion, will seek her second consecutive gold medal in the 400-meter dash. If she succeeds, she would join the Australian Cathy Freeman in the select group of athletes who have repeated the title in this discipline. Peguero expressed his optimism about the performance of Dominican athletes, highlighting their good physical and mental preparation. The president of the Federation also mentioned the support of the Ministry of Sports, the Creso Group and the Adidas brand. In addition, Peguero is establishing contacts with presidents of federations from other countries to promote beneficial agreements for Dominican athletics.

Competition Calendar

Marileidy Paulino will compete this Sunday in search of a place in the semifinals, at 7:25 p.m. (Tokyo time), which corresponds to 6:25 a.m. in the Dominican Republic. If he advances, Paulino will participate in the semifinal on Tuesday at 8:05 (Dominican time), seeking a spot to defend her world champion title. The final will be played on Thursday the 18th at 9:24 PM, Dominican time. Alexander Ogando will begin his participation in the 100 meters this Saturday at 10:30 at night (Dominican time). Liranyi Alonso will compete this Saturday at 5:55 in the morning (Tokyo time). Lidio Feliz will debut at the World Championships next Wednesday in the 200 meters at 6:10 in the morning, Dominican time.
