Paul George Suspended for 25 Games: A Harsh Setback for the 76ers

The NBA has announced a 25-game suspension for Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George due to a violation of the league’s anti-doping policy. The sanction comes into effect this Saturday, January 31, coinciding with the Sixers’ game against the New Orleans Pelicans. George will not be able to return to action until March 25, according to the official statement.

“In the process of addressing a personal matter related to my mental health, I made the mistake of taking an inappropriate medication. I take full responsibility and apologize to the organization, my teammates, and the Philadelphia fans,” the player expressed.

George has issued a statement where he assumes full responsibility for what happened, explaining that the breach occurred while he was seeking medical treatment. The player has stated that they will use this suspension time to focus on their physical and mental recovery, with the aim of returning in optimal condition to contribute to the team. Paul George joined the 76ers in 2024 after leaving the Los Angeles Clippers, through a four-year, $212 million contract. In the current season, he has participated in 27 games, averaging 16 points in 30.5 minutes per game. The player also missed the first 12 games of the season due to arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, an injury suffered during training. This is season number 16 in George’s NBA career, since he was selected by the Indiana Pacers in the 2010 Draft.
