Pau Gasol, New President of the IOC Athletes’ Commission

The former Spanish basketball player, Pau Gasol, has been elected as the president of the Athletes’ Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) during the Milan-Cortina Games.

Gasol, who was already part of this commission since August 2, 2021, after his appointment at the Tokyo Olympic Games, will now take on an even more important role. With this election, Gasol will represent athletes on the IOC Executive Commission, strengthening the voice of athletes within the Olympic organization. The former Spanish international has an outstanding career in the Olympic Games, participating in five editions.
  • Silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
  • Silver medal at the 2012 London Olympic Games.
  • Bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
In addition to his new role, Gasol will remain a member of the IOC Ethics Commission and the Coordination Commission for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, maintaining his active participation in the structure of the Olympic movement.
