Thomas Partey Released on Bail After Appearing on Serious Charges
Ghanaian footballer Thomas Partey, formerly of Arsenal and Atletico Madrid, has been released on bail after appearing before Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London.
Partey faces serious accusations: five counts of rape and one of sexual assault, brought by three women. The events allegedly occurred between 2021 and 2022.
The 32-year-old midfielder did not make any statements during the hearing. The trial will take place on September 2nd at the Old Bailey court, the main criminal court in England and Wales.
As part of the conditions of his parole, Partey is prohibited from maintaining any contact, direct or indirect, with the complainants.Details of the Accusations
According to information presented to the court, one of the victims accuses Partey of two counts of rape, another of three similar counts, and the third woman accuses him of sexual assault. The footballer has vehemently denied all accusations.
The investigation has been ongoing for more than two and a half years, although the complaint was made public on July 4, 2025, four days after the end of his contract with Arsenal.Possible Signing Generates Controversy
Amidst this legal process, Partey has been linked with a possible signing by Villarreal CF. However, the possibility of his incorporation has generated rejection among a significant part of the Spanish club’s fans, who have expressed their discontent on social media.
Partey arrived at Arsenal in 2020 after a transfer of 50 million euros from Atletico Madrid. Since then, he was a regular starter with the “Gunners”. In addition, he has represented Ghana in multiple international tournaments.
The legal process will continue next month, when the player appears before the criminal court to face the formal charges.
