Santo Domingo – In a vibrant encounter, Panama staged an epic comeback in the sixth inning, securing the victory against the Dominican Republic with a final score of 4-3 in the XIII Men’s Pan American Softball Championship, held in Montería, Colombia, on February 26th. The game, played at the Luis Escobar Pocaterra stadium, kept the Dominicans ahead with a 2-1 lead until the sixth inning. However, Panama unleashed its offense, connecting two hits, taking advantage of a hit and a walk to add the runs that would seal their victory.

This championship, organized by WBSC-America, is crucial, as it grants spots for the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 and the Pan American Games Lima 2027. Michigan Bermúdez, the pitcher, took the victory for Panama, with Joaquín Vargas securing the save. Bermúdez pitched for 5.2 innings, allowing four hits, two earned runs, three walks, and striking out five batters. In the offensive aspect, Xavier Serva stood out with a hit-triple, scoring a run and driving in two. Edison Calderón, Miguel Franco, and Daniel Batista also contributed with a single each. By the Dominican Republic, Yoel De Mota connected a double and a single, while Luis Hiciano, Juan Arias, Pablo Modesto Figuereo and Fernando Gómez added a hit each. Yan Carlos “El Pinto” González took the loss. Dominican Republic has two more matches scheduled, against Canada and Cuba.
