Santo Domingo – In a vibrant encounter, Panama staged a spectacular comeback in the sixth inning, securing the victory over the Dominican Republic with a final score of 4-3 in the XIII Men’s Pan American Softball Championship in Montería, Colombia.
The game, held on February 26, kept the Dominicans ahead with a 2-1 lead until the sixth inning. However, Panama reacted with determination, connecting two hits, taking advantage of a hit and a walk to score the runs that would define the result.
This tournament, organized by WBSC-America, is a qualifier for the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 and the Pan American Games in Lima 2027.

The Luis Escobar Pocaterra stadium witnessed Panama’s key victory. Until the sixth inning, the Dominican Republic led 3-1. The Panamanian offense, however, responded with two hits, a hit-by-pitch, and a walk, scoring the three runs that gave them the definitive lead.
Pitcher Yan Carlos “El Pinto” Gonzalez suffered the loss, while the victory went to starter Michigan Bermudez, who had the save of Joaquin Vargas.
Bermúdez had an outstanding performance in 5.2 innings, allowing four hits, two earned runs, three walks, and striking out five batters.
In the Panamanian offense, Xavier Serva shined with a hit-triple, scoring a run and driving in two. Edison Calderón, Miguel Franco, and Daniel Batista also contributed with a single each.
For the Dominican Republic, Yoel De Mota stood out with a double and a single, while Luis Hiciano, Juan Arias, Pablo Modesto Figuereo and Fernando Gómez connected a hit each.
The Dominican Republic has two more matches scheduled for today, against Canada and Cuba.
